Jake Asentista was born on the island of Oahu in Hawaii. He is a senior at Mid-Pac in Honolulu, Hawaii. This is his first year in the Mid-Pacific School of the Arts Media Art Certificate. He has experience in film directing and editing; 2D hand-drawn digital art; and creates interactive 3D works extracurricularly.
Jake hopes to experiment with professional animation, which would further his interest as a filmmaker. He also aspires to test with modern technological themes.
Jake’s creative processes are inspired by Stan Sakai’s work, of which Jake creates similar concepts to.
Mid-Pacific School of the Arts Student, Skylar Auyong was born on the Hawaiian island of Oahu in 1999. Skylar began dabbling in the digital media field since the beginning of his high school curriculum. This is his second year in the Mid-Pacific School of the Arts Media Art Certificate Program.
Over the past few years attending Mid-Pacific, he developed a passion for photography and film. Skylar often participates in student work exhibitions to showcase the various work he made or took part of. As he continues his 4th and final year, Skylar will continue focusing in both experimental film and photography.
He is not inspired by anybody. Not even himself. He does as he pleases.
Born in Oxford Mississippi, Mid-Pacific Senior Mia deLara takes her first official year in the MPSA certificate program in addition to Game Design. She spent her junior year attending Ms. Moura’s Animate I and II class and Mr. Faber’s Film I class. Mia had previously been a certificate student in Ms. Goya’s Film I and Digital Arts class her sophomore year before receiving a concussion from cheerleading. Having to take leave in order to recover during second semester of that year, she was unable to complete her digital media courses.
This year, Mia is interested in learning about all sorts of artwork so she can combine the concepts she learns and apply them to her daily tasks in order to create something new. This young student has an interest in learning all there is to learn and experience. She is still uncertain about what she wishes to do in college, for she cannot choose just one thing.
Mia’s inspiration for creating art comes from all around her. She enjoys observing art, but loves to learn how the piece became how it did. There is no single person or thing that inspires Mia in her knowledge. She believes the world is her inspiration, because creativity can be limited when focusing on only one aspect. (You could her ADHD is the reason she sees things the way she does.)
Nicole Johnston was born in Orange County, California. She is currently a senior at Mid-Pacific Institute in Honolulu, Hawaii. This is her second year in the Mid-Pacific School of the Arts Media Art Certificate Program. Last year, she explored landscape photography and is interested in learning and experimenting with different types of photography.
Nicole is interested in taking more landscape photos. She wants to challenge herself even further than she did last year. She would like to begin to take portraits of students and really showcase his/her physical attributes. Such as, their ethnicity, eyes, smile, etc.
She is inspired by the work of many local photographers like Clark Little and Zak Noyle. These photographers photos are primarily of waves. Nicole admires their other photos of sunsets and natures. She doesn’t know of too many photographers but she would definitely like to explore different ones.
Lianghong Ke was born in Guangdong, China. He is a junior at Mid-Pacific Institute in Honolulu, Hawaii. This is his first year in the Mid-Pacific School of the Arts Media Art Certificate Program. Last year, he explored photography and is interested in experimenting with photography this year.
Liang is interested in doing a film about the difference of skateboarding in Hawaii and China.
He is inspired the work by Elliot Erwitt because of his unique observation.
Joshua-Taylor Kim was born in Honolulu Hawaii, and is currently attending his first year in MPSA program, as a 10th grader at Mid-Pacific Institute. He specializes Photography and Film making, a he enters his second year in film production.
Josh is currently interested in creating artwork that contain digital photography, and would love to explore the world of 2 and 3 dimensional figures.
Ever since 6th grade, Josh has been inspired to inquire in the world of photography because of a guest visit by Shibbystylee, who talked about the business its self, and the adventures that come with it.
Ki Ricci was born in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, but later moved to Oahu Hawaii when they were only a few months old. They are a Junior at Mid-Pacific Institute in Honolulu, Hawaii and this is their first year Mid-Pacific Art Program Certificate.
They are interested in digital illustrations and learning how to create character concepts. They are also interested in fantasy and sci-fi themed art, and wishes to improve on their current skills.
Their inspiration varies from their second cousin, Michael Matsumoto, to online artists such as Sycra Yasin.
1. Matthew Joji Leandro Kaneko Sinco was born in Honolulu, Hawaii. He was raised in the Philippines from 6 months old to 7 years old. Matt is currently a 12th grader at Mid-Pacific Institute. He is a level 1 certificate student. His media specialty is in Maya, Illustrator, and Unity.
Matt is interested in creating laser etching artwork and possibly 3D modeled and rigged characters. Matt wants to explore the themes of nature and obscurities.
My father, and my brothers inspire me to create artwork.
Skyler Sybounmy is a sophomore student at Mid-Pacific and is enrolled in the Mid-Pacific School of the Arts Media Art Certificate Program. He was born in Honolulu, Hawaii. He is interested in making immersive and interactive art using Virtual Reality. He is inspired by the YouTube filmmaker, Corridor Digital, who uses different techniques and media to express different feelings to viewers.
Taylor Tajiri was born in Honolulu, Hawaii. She is a senior at Mid-Pacific Institute in Honolulu, Hawaii. This is her first year in the Mid-Pacific School of the Arts Media Art Certificate Program. Last year and this current year, she went into Digital Art and Animation.
Taylor is interested in doing a project using Maya to create an environment to be used with the oculus. She is inspired by her teachers at Mid-Pacific Institute because the products that created was well-known.
Matthew Tamashiro was born in Honolulu, Hawaii. He is a junior at Mid-Pacific Institute in Honolulu, Hawaii. He is in his first year of the Digital Media Arts certificate program.
Matthew is interested in studying both animation and film. For animation, he is interested in scene building. For film, he is interested in cinematography.
He is inspired by the artists at Pixar as well as Wes Anderson. Both inspirations have unique ways of storytelling which is respective to them respectively.
Brandon Tanaka was born in Hawaii, Brandon is in 10th grade. His certificate level is 1 and he is taking film production and photography.
Brandon is interested in making art pieces out of the laser cutter and the 3D printer. He also wants to try to make a 360 picture that you can look around and move. He wants to try make a scary picture that you can look through and almost feel like you are in the world.
Someone who inspires him is Devin graham who makes stunning videos on YouTube and puts a lot of time and effort into his films.
Kaylee Tokumi was born in Honolulu, Hawaii and she is currently a junior at Mid-Pacific. She is a second year Mid-Pacific School of the Arts Media Art Certificate Program student specializing in digital art and design. In the past, she has attempted to create virtual landscapes and digital paintings of mostly scenery.
This year she wants to focus on improving her digital painting skills by adding more detail, and experimenting with lighting and colors. She also wants to expand her drawing skills and experiment with painting people and more intricate scenery. She is inspired by her elementary art school teachers who helped to encourage her love of art.
Danni Ujimori was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii. She currently attends Mid-Pacific in her junior year of high school and studies advanced photography and attends a specialized class for all media arts. She is a level two in the certificate program and specializes in digital photography.
During this 2016-2017 school year, I hope to dive into the depths of portrait photography and experiment with nighttime photography, lighting is a huge key in both categories, and learning more about the complex world of it will help me with my overall success in digital photo.
Currently, my father has inspired me to get into photography, he has a portfolio for architecture from the 80’s and it inspired me to dig deeper into the wide world of photography.
