Post Secret

August 2019 – Art Journal Daily Prompt

This month’s art prompt is inspired by Post Secret,* a community art project started in 2005.

Here is some background information about Post Secret: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PostSecret

*Disclaimer: If you visit the Post Secret webpage, some of the content posted has mature content and maybe offensive in nature. Please use your discretion in viewing and discussing the content posted to the site.

For the purposes of our class, this version of Post Secret will live in your art journal and will be posted anonymously on a digital class pin board.

“The postcards are inspiration to those who read them, have a healing powers for those who write them, and give hope to people who identify with a stranger’s secret, and create an anonymous community of acceptance.”

Frank Warren, Founder of Post Secret

As a class, we will attempt to utilize this art prompt to start off the year with honest art making that sometimes are inspired by true feelings, stories, histories that are difficult to share.

Your secret can be a regret, fear, betrayal, desire, confession or childhood humiliation. Reveal anything – as long as it’s true and you have never shared it with anyone before (to a certain degree, can also be something not many know about you).

Tips:

Be brief – the few words used, the better.
Be legible – use big, clear and bold lettering.
Be creative – let the postcard be your canvas.

Requirements:

Feature a drawing, painting, magazine-cut out assemblage, hand lettering, etc in your post card. Adhere to the original Post Secret concepts and tips. Minimum of one postcard per week.
